October is National ADHD Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on one of the most common – and often misunderstood – mental health conditions affecting young people today. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) impacts millions of children and teens across the United States, influencing everything from academic performance and friendships to family relationships and self-esteem.
At ROWI Teen & Parent Wellness Centers, we recognize that teens with ADHD are not lazy or lack motivation – ADHD is a neurodevelopmental difference that deserves understanding, compassion, and evidence-based support. Our programs are designed specifically for families seeking meaningful help for children aged 8-17 who may be struggling to focus, regulate emotions, or stay on track in school and daily life.
Understanding ADHD in today’s youth
ADHD can look different in every child. For some, it shows up as constant movement, impulsive decisions, and difficulty sitting still. For others, it manifests quietly – through daydreaming, forgetfulness, and trouble organizing thoughts or completing assignments. Many parents today are surprised to learn that teens with ADHD often also experience anxiety, depression, or learning differences, making early recognition and comprehensive treatment even more important.
According to the CDC, roughly 1 in 10 children in the U.S. has been diagnosed with ADHD – but the real number is likely higher. That’s because symptoms can be subtle or mistaken for behavioral issues, especially in girls, where inattentive forms of ADHD are more common.
At ROWI, our clinicians go beyond surface-level symptoms. We help families uncover what’s really going on – whether that’s ADHD, emotional distress, executive-functioning challenges, or a combination of factors affecting a child’s ability to succeed.
How ROWI helps
- Comprehensive assessment and personalized treatment
Every child who enters ROWI’s program begins with a thorough clinical assessment by our licensed mental health professionals. We work closely with parents, schools, and pediatricians to understand each child’s unique strengths and challenges. From there, we build an individualized care plan that may include evidence-based therapies like CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), and executive-function coaching – all aimed at improving focus, organization, and emotional regulation. - Small groups and individual attention
Our Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs maintain small group sizes and high staff-to-student ratios, allowing for near one-on-one attention. This supportive environment helps kids and teens learn new skills, practice mindfulness, and develop strategies for success – both in and out of the classroom. - Family-centered care
At ROWI, parents are never left out of the process. We know that ADHD affects the entire family system, not just the child. That’s why we provide family therapy, parent coaching, and educational workshops designed to help caregivers understand ADHD, respond effectively to challenges, and rebuild a sense of calm and confidence at home. - Whole-person approach
Our programs emphasize more than symptom management. We incorporate physical wellness, nutrition, fitness, and mindfulness training – helping kids strengthen both mind and body. For many families, this integrated approach becomes the turning point in their child’s growth and self-esteem.
