What is Trauma?

Trauma is a psychological and emotional response to an event or situation that is distressing or disturbing and exceeds a person’s ability to cope or process the experience.

Signs of Trauma in Teens:

  • Persistent and intense feelings of fear, helplessness, or horror related to the traumatic event
  • Avoidance of situations, people, or places that remind them of the trauma
  • Intrusive and distressing memories, flashbacks, or nightmares related to the trauma
  • Difficulty concentrating or focusing on tasks
  • Hyperarousal or increased anxiety, including hypervigilance, irritability, or difficulty sleeping

How ROWI can help:

  • Individual therapy sessions with licensed therapists trained in evidence-based treatments for trauma, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Group therapy sessions to provide support and teach coping skills to manage trauma-related symptoms
  • Family therapy sessions to help parents and teens understand the effects of trauma and how to support each other
  • Referral to medical providers for medication management, if necessary
  • Educational resources for parents and teens to learn more about trauma and how to manage symptoms.

Each ROWI client receives a treatment plan that will support them in meeting their goals. Programs are individualized in order to meet each client and family where they are at in the process. Contact us to learn more and to get support for your teen struggling with trauma.
