Gender identity issues refer to a range of mental health conditions in which an individual’s gender identity is different from their assigned sex at birth, causing distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other areas of functioning.
Signs of Gender Identity Issues in Teens:
- Persistent and intense feelings of discomfort or distress related to their assigned gender
- Strong and persistent desire to be treated as a gender other than the one assigned at birth
- Persistent discomfort or distress with their physical sex characteristics
- Strong and persistent desire to get rid of or change their physical sex characteristics
- Social withdrawal or isolation due to discomfort with their assigned gender
